Built for your next step

Independent technical clarity for startup founders.

If you're not deeply technical, it can be difficult to know whether your product is being engineered correctly.

Are development estimates reasonable?

Is your architecture appropriate?

Does the team need more engineers—or better priorities?

Should you rebuild something?

Is your agency delivering what was promised?

Are you ready to scale?

Our Independent CTO & Engineering Review gives founders a senior-level technical perspective without requiring a full-time CTO.

Best suited for

  • Non-technical founders
  • Startups working with external agencies
  • Businesses using freelance engineering teams
  • Founders considering changing development partners
  • Startups preparing for fundraising
  • Companies making significant technology investments
  • Businesses concerned about development progress
  • Founders who need a second technical opinion

What success looks like

Leave with a Founder Technology Assessment, clear immediate priorities and a recommended 30/60/90-day roadmap discussed in a founder strategy session.

Roadmap

We assess whether the technology roadmap reasonably supports the company's business objectives.

Build vs Buy

We help determine where custom engineering makes sense and where established platforms or services may be more economical.

Vendor assessment

If your startup uses an external technology partner, we can independently assess relevant deliverables and engineering practices.

Inside the engagement

Questions we help founders answer

  • Is my development team moving at a reasonable pace?
  • Is my current architecture appropriate?
  • Do we actually need to rebuild?
  • What are the biggest technical risks?
  • What should engineering work on first?
  • Do I need more developers?
  • Can this architecture support the next stage of growth?
  • Are we overengineering?
  • Are we accumulating dangerous technical debt?
  • Should we continue with the current technology partner?
  • What technology investments should we make over the next 6–12 months?

Example conclusion

Overall Engineering Risk: MODERATE

Immediate priorities

  1. Establish automated regression coverage for payment workflows.
  2. Remove production infrastructure dependency on individual developer accounts.
  3. Improve observability around critical background jobs.

Next 90 days

  1. Refactor selected payment processing components.
  2. Establish CI/CD controls.
  3. Introduce infrastructure monitoring.
  4. Define architecture ownership within the engineering team.

Scope & boundaries

Broader technology due diligence, large engineering organisations, or multiple products require custom scope.

From first conversation to handover

A clear path to delivery

  1. 01

    Technical Discovery

We understand your product, current technology stack, business priorities, known problems, and desired outcome.

  2. 02

    Agree the scope

Define the systems, repositories, access, review areas or implementation work, deliverables and acceptance criteria for your engagement.

  3. 03

    Review & assess

Inspect the agreed product areas, document evidence and prioritise findings. Review recommendations with your team.

  4. 04

    Prioritise & hand over

Walk through findings and completed work, confirm next priorities and hand over the agreed documentation and recommendations.

The details that matter

Before we get started

A few things to know about scope, timing and working together.

Is this a fixed-price package?

The displayed prices are indicative. We agree a defined scope, acceptance criteria and a project quote before work starts. Requests beyond that scope are estimated separately.

What do you need from our team?

A product or operations contact, access to the agreed systems and documentation, representative test data, and timely feedback. We confirm access and integration dependencies before scheduling delivery.

When does the delivery timeline begin?

The target delivery window is 5–10 working days, starting once scope, access and dependencies are ready. Third-party approvals or changes to the agreed scope can affect timing.

What happens after delivery?

We walk your team through the assessment, findings and prioritised roadmap. You can act on the recommendations internally or request a separate engineering proposal.

Prices are indicative GBP project ranges. Final scope, deliverables, acceptance criteria and price are agreed before work starts. Timelines assume defined scope, available technical access and compatible third-party integrations. Vendor, infrastructure, regulatory and licensing costs are excluded.
